June 2004

Well, we made it through all of our company and it sure was fun.

Blair & Darlene, again. Just kidding, it is always great to have them visit, as we get a lot of help around the house, in the kitchen and outside with some projects. Abuse? Yeah, maybe. This year they modified their accomodations slightly by staying up in Hemet most of the time so they could hang out with some old friends from Shellbrook. We paid them a visit in Hemet too, staying over for a night and relaxing in the warm spring air.

Emily had her first birthday on March 13, of course. We celebrated with a house full of people and an afternoon bbq. Thanks to everyone who made it - we had a great time. The afternoon was capped off with the breaking of the piƱata which Blair & Darlene brought up from Puerto Vallarta. Congrats to Nolan & Callum for beating the crap out of the clay pot!

Reid made it down to visit for a couple weeks in March. He arrived on Emily's birthday, March 13, and left on March 27. Much biking was had by all. Ok, not really, just Reid. He must have gotten a few hundred kms in during the first week he was here, including an epic ride from our place to the top of Mount Palomar and back. Ehren was lucky enough to get out for 2 rides with Reid while he was here, which was a lot of fun. (yeah, you all missed out) During the 2nd week of Reid's visit, his buddy Shane came down to hang out also. They spent a couple days partying in LA and checking out the sites, then did some site seeing here also. It was great to meet Shane and we look forward to seeing him again. Thanks for the home-grown maple syrup, Shane!

Reid was in town again for a few days for work during the time Joop & Rose were here, but he managed to get a couple bike rides in too. It was nice to see him again and even better when the trip is paid for! Good thing QUALCOMM uses Synopsis tools...

Joop & Rose finally made it back down for the first time in almost 5 years. It was almost a 2 week stay, but they also got to enjoy their drive down and back. While they were here, they did a few days of baby-sitting Emily while we were working and just relaxed the rest of the time. Well, there was that day when Joop got sick in the glider out at Warner Springs, but other then that it was good. Actually, that was a fun day too, as we had a nice drive and also stopped to see the observatory on top of Mount Palomar.

We finally made a trip of our own again. On May 13 we left for Omaha, via Denver. The main focus of the trip was to attend Deana's graduation, but we had also been looking forward to visiting them and staying at their house since they bought it. Blair & Darlene were also there and Lana also dropped in from jolly old England. It was a short trip, as we came back on the 18th, but it was a nice break. Emily had the most fun with Butters, D&J's 1.5 year old yellow lab.
