cool mountain air

It was a beautiful day yesterday, but the possibility of rain in the morning seemed to keep many riders out of the mountains until it cleared off. We started at our regular time though and "enjoyed" a quiet ride up to 9000+ ft. The air really cooled off as we climbed though and I started to get an ache in my left knee. I had knee warmers on, but it still hurt. Even the right knee was sore later.

At a little higher elevation (just over 10000 ft) they apparently had snow the night before. We may not be riding to the higher elevations for very much longer! It's nice to see fall coming though.

new cassette - will it be any easier?

I've been hurting myself trying to climb some of the mtn roads around Boulder, so decided to look into getting a compact crank. Due to some limitations of my bike, it was recommended I go with a different rear cassette instead. So I replaced my 11/23 with a 12/27, giving me a fair amount more low-end without too much loss on the high-end. Still running the 53/39 up front.

It's been a couple rides on the new gearing and so far it was definitely the right choice. I'm looking forward to the next ride on Sunday... I'm sure there will be a few big climbs on the route.

August 2006

We had an uneventful long weekend. Ehren had a 4 day weekend so we did some shopping for the house...picked up a TV and bedroom set for Em. We also went to the mountains to Eldorado Springs Canyon with some friends and had a great time (pictures from that are on our July 1 update).

Janelle has had two orientation days at the RMCC and it seems that the group there is wonderful to work with...even the Dr.'s :-). Hopefully she'll get a few more days in once she's back from Canada.

Well, we're finally in our house and had our furniture delivered a couple weeks ago...just in time to "get unpacked" and head to Canada in a couple days. Things went rather smoothly. Everything arrived in one piece and not damaged...only a week late so it could've been worse! :-) We had one week of hard core unpacking and a week later we're what we'd call settled. The first weekend we had the house (and before we moved in) we did some painting in a couple rooms with the help of D & Jay and Blair & Dar (they came down for 5 days to help out-actually, to see the grandkids I believe). Guess we'll fill you in more after we're back from Canada!!
